Designing for safety
Designing for safety is the application of engineering and management principles to reduce risk to an acceptable level — a planned, disciplined, systematic approach. A system is failsafe if it remains in, or moves to, a safe state on failure: as designers we work to exclude hazards rather than manage them.
The group is deeply conversant with the risks of hydraulic pressure testing. We develop functional safety to detect potentially dangerous conditions and activate protection before a hazardous event — because overall SIL and PL levels depend on architecture, diagnostic coverage and the entire chain of safety-related parts, not any single component.
